14U LI Sharks Score 3 unanswered Runs to Defeat LIB

by Alex Carmenaty

The LI Sharks were down 1-0 early, but they knew it was not going to end like that. From the bottom of the 2nd on, they managed to score three unanswered runs to take the lead and eventually shutout the Robins from there.

After TJ Harrington gave the Robbins a 1-0 lead in the top 2nd with and RBI single, it was Joey Derose getting an RBI Single of his own, tying things up at 1. Then two batters later it was Rich Stanya drawing an RBI walk, giving the Sharks the Go Ahead Run and the lead.

From there, there would be a great showing of defensive baseball as both teams stranded runners on base, struck out a combined five times and a double play was turned by the Sharks, the old fashioned 6-4-3.

But in the bottom 4th, Danny Tiedermann would lead off with a double and then Joe Conlon would drive him in with a double himself, giving the insurance run and a 2-run lead for the Sharks.

“It was a very important hit as I gave it a good hard swing, bringing in the run to increase the lead.” Conlon said when asked about how important that hit was to him.

The Sharks would continue their dominance defensively as they only allowed 1 base runner through the final three innings, retiring 10 of the last 11 batters for the Robbins, four of them being strikeouts.

The Sharks take this one 3-1, proving that if you have a good defense, you can manage to win without an offensive explosion.
