Dylan Beirne Leads Oil City With His Arm, Bat & Speed to an 11-4 Victory

With the score knotted at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning the Oil City Bandits sent their top of the order to the plate.

Nine batters later they held a commanding 8-4 lead.

In between, they had five hits including a huge two-run go-ahead double by Carson Fessler to score Ryan Piccola (3-for-4) and Todd Segarra (2-for-3, BB). Dylan Beirne followed with an RBI single to extend it to 7-4 and Nick Alverez put the icing on the cake with an RBI double to left field to make it 8-4.

They added three more in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Segarra and a two-run single by Carson Fessler again.

Beirne was a huge factor in this game as he pitched a complete game when his team needed the depth. Down one of their top arms for the weekend, they were spread a bit thin on starting pitchers.

After allowing a four-spot in the first inning to relinquish a 2-0 lead, Beirne was lights out. He allowed no runs. The only real threat he faced was in the bottom of the fourth when he loaded the bases with 1 out. He struck out both pinch hitters to end the threat including a nasty breaking ball to end the inning.

He got some help from his defense in the bottom of the fifth on an outstanding diving play by Segarra to end the inning.

With the victory, they will await to see their seed for the postseason tomorrow as they certainly appear to be a contender to capture the 12U Stars & Stripes Tournament.
