Sean Tierney Ignites Long Island Titans Giaco in the First to Secure 9-3 Win Over LIB

By Lou Accumanno

The Long Island Titans had the right offensive mindset during their matchup against the LIB Enriq- Scout team.

Kyle Pellegrino was on the mound for LIB Enriq-Scout and got off to a shaky start walking his first two batters. The powerful slugger, Sean Tierney was up to bat and crushed one to left field for a double to send both runners home giving the Titans a quick 2-0 lead to start off the inning.

More problems approached in the inning for Pellegrino as he walked another batter compounded with a wild pitch. Tierney decided to steal not one, but two bases off the wild pitch to extend the lead 3-0.

LIB decided to make a change and put in Liam Walsh, but this offense continued firing balls in the gaps. The Titans continued to score another run during the first, from a single by Anthony Morotta giving the Titans a commanding 4-0 at the end of the first.

LIB Enriq responded back in the first by scoring three runs themselves off five at bats.

Coach of the Titans, Joe Giacomantonio said, “Nothing changes. We are going to do what we do best.”

In this case, Giacomantonio implied his team could hit the ball, and this Titans squad did just that in second and third innings.

At the start of the second inning John Jimenez tripled with no one out and was waiting to be brought home. Connor Flemming sent one to right field to send Jimenez home which brought the lead up 5-3.

In the third, three more runs scored thanks to the quick Max Weinstein for stealing home which then advanced two other runners into scoring position. Flemming was up to bat again to send both the runner’s home to make the lead 9-3.

This Titans team from up and down the roster got their licks in. Giacomantonio said, “we get ourselves into a good hitter count and just have good timing with everything.”

After the first inning this team made all the stops defensively and didn’t allow anymore runs as Noah Frasca bounced back to close this game out for the Titans.

The Titans sit in first place in the 17U division and look to keep the ball rolling this summer with more wins like this one. Giacomantonio said, “this team can really do it all when they put their mind to it.”
