To start the first inning the Sharks sent the their tall, hard throwing right hander to the mound, Danny Tredermann. Tredermann worked quick in the first inning giving up only a single. Greg Malerba took the mound for Camelot to start.
The Sharks struck first on an RBI single to left field by their first baseman Tristan Gatchalion that scored Drew McGowan.
The Knights got to Tedermann in the 2nd inning. After a leadoff single by Sean Seligman, the offense capitalized by sending him home on a throwing error to tie the game 1-1. Then with runners on second and third, leadoff batter, Nick DiSanti roped a line drive double down the left field line that would give the Knights a 3-1 lead.
The Sharks bat’s hit right back in the 3rd inning with an RBI single by center fielder Jack Costello that scored Nick Pompei. The single cut their deficit to only one run.
It looked as if Tedermann found his stride after the 2nd inning, mowing down the Knights batters 1 by 1. However, after recording 2 quick outs in the top of the 5th, Knights first basemen Justin Consi reached base on a single down the left field line. Joe Iadevaio then crushed a line drive over the left fielder’s head for an RBI single, extending their lead to 5-2.
Again, the Sharks offense would come right back on yet another triple to left field by Derek Masino cutting the score to 5-3
The 2-hour time limit was quickly approaching so it was decided that after the completion of the 6th inning the game would be over, making it the Sharks last chance to score. After retiring the Knights bats in the top of the inning, it was the Sharks turn to try and tie it up. A 1 out walk got things moving for the offense. Followed by a couple errors and another walk, the Sharks managed to load the bases with Drew McGowan coming to the plate who already hit a double earlier in the game.
Down to their last out, McGowan knew he had to come up big for his team, and so he did. On a 2-1 fastball, McGowan roped a line drive over the first baseman’s head that scored all three runners on base giving his team the walk off 6-5 victory over the Knights.
When asked about his approach going into the at bat, McGowan said “I was just found a pitch to drive, elevated it over the first baseman’s head, and that’s the game.”
