Weekend double headers at the ballpark can sometimes make for long days as is. The first game at Cantiague Park Field A between the Batting 1.000 Seminoles and the Manhasset Indians definitely proved to be the making of a very long day for the latter team, as the former went insane on offense in a 21-2 landslide win.
Batting 1.000 big day got started in the top of the first when leadoff hitter Jake Barletta hustled to first on a ground ball to shortstop. The throw to first went wide, giving the Seminoles their first of several base runners. Anthony Kenner drew a walk before he and Barletta stole second and third. The catcher threw past third base and the runners advanced again as the ball rolled into left field. Kenner then came home on a ground ball to SS by Joe Angeletta to make it 2-0. Aiden Susi’s RBI single and Lucas Rogers’ RBI triple brought the lead to 4-0.
Manhasset also scored their first time at bat. Gavin Karcic walked and came home on Justin Yemm’s inside-the-park home run. The Indians were able to make it a close game early with these two runs, but it was unfortunately the only time they scored in the game. For the next three innings, it was all Batting 1.000.
William Shlomm led off the second inning with an infield single to third base. He stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Barletta hit an RBI single to center field to make it 5-2. Kenner then hit the second inside-the-park homerun of the day to give the Seminoles a 7-2 lead. They continued to pile on the runs in the third inning. Susi hit a single to start the inning and was brought home on Lucas Rogers’ RBI triple. Rogers then came home on Shlomm’s infield single. Shlomm stole second and went to third on Murphy’s infield single. Barletta brought both runners home on a single to CF. The last two runs of the inning came courtesy of Kenner who hit another inside-the-park homerun. Batting 1.000 grew their lead to 13-2.
With the game already looking completely out of reach, the Seminoles still continued to score runs in the fourth. It is hard to believe, but this is when they would turn in their best inning of the day. The top of the fourth saw every player in the Batting 1.000 lineup entering the batter’s box. Collin Driscoll was the first to bat and had his first hit of the inning, a single to CF. He stole second and third base. Susi and Rogers each walked to load the bases. Shlomm hit a single to score one run and a passed ball scored another. Barletta hit another two RBI single to make it 17-2. Kenner’s single, Angeletta’s 2 RBI triple, and another single from Driscoll, led to the final four runs of the game.

The game was ended due to mercy rule after the fourth inning concluded. Not to be lost in the midst of this offensive clinic, the Seminoles had some good pitching as well. Murphy got the start and stayed on the mound for the first three innings, giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits. Wyatt Baxter relieved him in the bottom of the fourth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to put Manhasset away. Batting 1.000 stayed true to their name in this one, as it seemed like none of their batters could get out even if they tried. Final Score: Batting 1.000 21, Manhasset 2.
