The game did not start out as planned for Jack Carr, as the hard-throwing righty allowed a first inning solo shot to Rob Manetta.
It couldn’t have gone much better from that point forward. The Stony Brook-commit wound up striking out 11 batters, allowing just three more hits and needing only 83 pitches to fire a complete game in a 2-1 victory for the Body Armor Titans over Massapequa Redmen XXII in Perfect Game’s WWBA Northeast National Championship.
Redmen XXII countered with Dan Meaney, a southpaw that was pounding the zone early and often.
Pitching with a 1-0 lead, he was sharp and effective. He fired a 1-2-3 first inning and worked around a second inning single by large school playoff MVP Matt Brown-Eiring.
He allowed a two-out double in the third inning to his counterpart, Jack Carr, but escaped unscathed.
A big moment in the game came in the top of the fifth when Fordham-commit Don Wille singled, as did Notre Dame-commit Brock Murtha. With one-out, he coaxed a 6-4-3 DP off the bat of Mike Ciminello to avoid any damage.
Just when it appeared that Meaney was cruising allowed, a strikeout scooted away from the catcher to allow Mike Prisco to reach first base safely in the sixth. A walk to Carr followed by a sac bunt by Justin Ortiz brought up the dangerous Alex Ungar with second and third. He walked on a borderline 3-2 pitch to load the bases for Gavin McAlonie. The Miller Place rising senior smoked a single down the right field line to tie the game. Meaney avoided further trouble with a 5-4-3 double play to end the sixth.
Carr was just getting stronger.
He struck out his ninth batter in the sixth inning and avoided any damage.
In the top of the 7th, Body Armor went to work. A double off the bat of Wille just missed being a home run. He advanced to third on a double by Brock Murtha and scored on a double by Ciminello down the right field line, that was nearly caught on a full extension dive by the right fielder. It gave the Titans a 2-1 lead. Reliever Jack Keenan used a come backer and a strike out to end the seventh.

Carr went back out for the seventh and worked around a two-out single by Joe Reda to seal the deal on a dominant complete game victory.
