Batting 1.000 Combine on 3-Hit Shutout

The Batting 1.000 Seminoles used a dynamite pitching performance and took advantage of some defensive miscues with clutch hits in a 4-0 victory in a Friday night matchup against Diamond Spikes in the Boys of Summer 17U Scout Division match up.

They started southpaw Ryan Schechner (Bellmore JFK 2020) who is coming off an incredible season in which the junior was named All-County. He was efficient, allowing just one walk and a bloop double in his three innings of work tonight. He used a good arsenal of pitches and used his defense, striking out just one batter.

His offense went against a tough customer, David Safirstein. After going down scoreless in the bottom of the first, they went to work in the second inning. The first batter was retired but a one-out single by Anthony LoCurto followed by an E4 set the stage for an RBI single by Luke Zuckerman to give the Seminoles an early 1-0 lead. The following batter, Patrick Bartoletta, drove in a run with an RBI ground out to make it 2-0.

Erik Maldonado came on in relief of Schechner in the fourth and fired a scoreless fourth and fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, an RBI groundout by Zuckerman made it 3-0. The run came around to score when LoCurto walked and stole second to get into scoring position.

They also added a run on an E1 in the bottom of the sixth to drive in Ryan Riccio.

Anthony LaBita pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings for the Seminoles, who improve to 4-2 on the season.
