Dan Lippman and the LI Marlins Cruise to 9-4 Victory at Hofstra

by Lou Accumanno

Everyone on the varsity team of the Long Island Marlins got their licks in against the Seminoles-Smith in a convincing 9-4 victory at Hofstra University.

Christian Morgan smacked in two runs in the first inning for the team that put them up 2-0. This ignited the team’s offense early as they continued to score in the second, third, and fourth innings.

Bryan Hanlon drove one down the right line that had his brother, Colin Hanlon score which was a big contribution to offensive side of the game.

The powerhouse in Lou Sabitino and the speedy Mike McGoey kept the offense rolling by getting on base all three times when up to the plate.

What iced the game was a triple that had sent in three runs during the bottom of the fourth by Sophomore, Dan Lippman, which had stretched the lead 9-0. “Hitters hit and we did just that today,” Lippman said. Everyone on the offensive side for the Marlins were locked in and ready to pull that trigger as soon as the ball left that pitcher’s hand.

Coach Marlon Artigas of the Long Island Marlins said, “It was a good job by these guys today. We played both sides of the game well and it came up with a big win.”

The sophomore, Andrew Moy, had the ball for the Marlins as he didn’t allow any runs to score after being relieved in the fifth. Moy had his stuff working early in the game as he struck out three batters and allowed no one to get on base for three innings. Everyone else on the team picked up their game defensively in the infield and outfield which didn’t allow any offense for the Seminoles to get going early in the game.

The Seminoles could not get the ball to fly their way, until Moy was put in a jam with bases loaded in the sixth and was then replaced on the mound by Christian Morgan. The Seminoles went on and had scored four runs total in the sixth and seventh inning. It had looked as if they were going to make a comeback late in the game, but the deficit was just too much to overcome as reliever Morgan quickly wrapped things up to finish the game.

The Marlins came into this game today after being defeated in back to back games yesterday.

Artigas said, “After the two loses back-to-back yesterday we needed this one.”

The Long Island Marlins are now sitting at a 2-2 record for the season.
