Baseball has a pretty simple concept. You can’t lose if the opposition can’t get you out. That’s exactly what the South Shore Sharks did today in their 14U Spring Classic Championship against the Massapequa Cyclones.
The Sharks achieved an extremely impressive feat in that every batter in their lineup reached base safely in the game. They tallied 14 hits leading them to 10 runs, and a dominant 10-4 victory.
The team was led by Yorky Perez who reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-3 with a double, 2 RBI’s and a walk. He also pitched 5.2 innings registering 5 strikeouts. After the game Perez discussed his strong start on the mound putting an emphasis on throwing strikes, “I felt really good on the mound today, I found the strike zone, kept hitting it and it got me outs.”
The game was tight up until the bottom of the 4th inning which was when the Sharks hot bats took over. They had only led at that point 4-2 before compiling 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th breaking the game wide open. Liam Collins, Jimmy Manzella, Mikey Furst, and Perez all recorded RBI hits in the inning. Gabriel Elmokian also had an RBI in the inning on a groundout to the second baseman.
Five batters in the Sharks lineup tallied multiple hits including Collins, Perez, Elmokian, Jake Scafa, and Justin Delgado. Delgado delivered the biggest blast of the game in the 2nd inning with a rocket off of the bottom of the wall in left center field.
At the end of the day it was an extremely dominant day for Perez and the Sharks, who will look to build off of this spring league championship and ride the momentum into the summer.
