Bethpage Dominates VSN 15-1 To Advance

With the season on the line, Bethpage annihilated Valley Stream North on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 15-1. Bethpage advances to the Class A semifinals with the victory.

After posting a scoreless top of the 1st inning, Bethpage wasted no time manhandling their opponents. With two men on and nobody out, Pete Schimmel launched a three-run home run to give Bethpage a 3-0 lead in the blink of an eye. Brody Paola tacked onto Schimmel’s home run with an RBI of his own.

Then, things got ugly.

Following the four-run 1st inning, the Bethpage bats exploded even more in the 2nd inning. They scratched across six runs on this occasion, expanding the lead to 10-0 after two. Evidently, Bethpage was in the driver’s seat.

Considering Nick Wendling was dealing, there was never any threat of a comeback. Wendling brought his best stuff to the ballpark on Tuesday as he threw 4.2 innings allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out seven. He also went 3-3 at the plate with 2RBI.

“We hit the ball really hard today our game plan was to come in swinging, I pitched against them last week we didn’t really hit the ball well and ended up losing but today’s game plan was hitting and I just had to throw strikes and we’re ready for next week now,” said Wendling.

In total, Bethpage mashed 15 runs on 16 hits. Chris McGuggart, Brody Paola and Pete Schimmel all combined for 10 RBI. Nick Wendling, Rich Gennaro, Brian O’Boyle and Alex Purichak all had RBI as well.

After their huge victory, Division awaits Bethpage in the Class A semifinals. If the Golden Eagles swing the sticks like they did on Tuesday, they can definitely give Division a run for their money. Expect this series to be competitive.
