Typically we only do the recaps on Saturday and Sunday morning but yesterday was pretty busy due to the rain outs. All the Division-Is were in action plus a couple of the Division-IIs. There was more rainouts as well which means today will be an uncharacteristically busy Monday for college teams.
Here’s how it went down:
Division-I:
Stony Brook came from behind to knock off UMBC, 3-2. Down 2-0 going into the 6th, Johnny Decker would get SBU on the board with an RBI single. Brandon Janofsky would tie the game up in the following inning after he scored on a wild pitch. That wouldn’t be the last time you heard from him as he would go on to win the game in extras with an RBI single. Sam Turcotte would go on to be credited with the win for his four scoreless innings in relief of Jared Mitch, who pitched seven strong innings himself. They are now 24-15 on the season and will travel to LIU Brooklyn tomorrow.
St. Johns lost a tough game against Georgetown, 4-1, which completed the weekend sweep. Walks were an issue early on for Jeff Belge as he surrendered 5 of them in his 3.2 innings of work. Still he was able to limit any damage to only two runs. Unfortunately, the bats had a quiet day except for Mike Antico, as he went three for four with St. John’s only run batted in. They are now 23-17 on the season and will host Iona tomorrow.
Fordham lost in especially difficult fashion against Massachusetts Lowell after the walked it off in the 10th. Fordham would get down early after allowing two runs in the first. They would stay down two until the 6th when both Alvin Melendez and Jake Baker would provide RBI singles to the game. Baker in particular was impressive as he notched four hits total on the day. Starter Anthony DiMeglio was another bright spot as he went seven innings and only allowed two runs (one earned). The Rams are now 26-20 and will travel to Albany tomorrow.
Hofstra made an offensive outburst in the 1st inning count as they won 10-5. Hofstra would score six in the top half of the first in an inning that was highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat off of Vito Friscia– his 7th of the season. James Madison wouldn’t go away as they cut Hofstra’s lead to one by the second inning. That was the last bit of scoring as Jack Anderson would come in and settle things down giving 4.2 innings of scoreless ball in relief. Hofstra capped the strong offensive day by adding three more runs in the 7th. The Pride are 13-26 and will host Elon this weekend.
Division-II:
Queens College won 4-0 against St. Thomas Aquinas after receiving a dominant start from Mike Lamneck. He would give them seven scoreless innings that was met with another two scoreless from James McGee. The offense didn’t need to do much but still received contributions from Eric Roubal, and Joe O’Rourke. Roubal gave them a 2-0 lead after a two run double in the first, and O’Rourke would tack on an insurance run the 6th when he hit a home run. They are now 23-18-1 and will finish off their series with STAC today.
Molloy had a difficult Sunday as they lost both halves of their doubleheader against Bridgeport with scores of 7-1 and 10-3. The offense couldn’t get much going against Chris Martucci of Bridgeport in game one as he only allowed one unearned run in a complete game effort. Game two was off to a promising start as Molloy was leading 3-0 going into the 7th. The 7th turned out to be a disaster as Molloy would relinquish seven runs, a number they couldn’t come back from on Sunday. They fall to 13-26 and will travel to face Dominican College on Tuesday.
