Friday’s College Baseball Recap (4/26) Presented by The Schwarz Institute

With the monsoon yesterday, there was not much action. I was ready to head over to Brookville for the big ECC four-game set between LIU Post and NYIT but then the rains came. It was a little disappointing, they will play two today and two tomorrow as many teams will.

As I’m sitting here typing, I see a sunny sky which means a full day of baseball. In the meantime, here’s the recap of the two teams that were on the road yesterday.

Division-I:

Hofstra had their six-game win streak snapped by CAA-rival James Madison University by the score of 8-6. Jack Jett got the start for them, and he struggled through 3.2 IP, allowing 4 earned runs on six hits and a walk. They trailed 3-0, but the game was far from over. Austin Gauthier inched them closer with a two-run shot in the fourth inning and Anthony D’Onofrio tied it up with an RBI triple to score Sean Flaherty. Jimmy Joyce came on in relief and fired 4.1 innings, but allowed JMU to take an 8-3 lead. They fought back, with Vito Friscia’s three-run home run bringing them to within 8-6 in the seventh but that’s as close as they would get. Frsicia filled up the stat sheet with a 3-for-3 game with 3 RBI, two runs and two walks.

They fall to 12-25 on the season (5-8 CAA) and will be back in action tonight at JMU at 6pm.

St. John’s had their three-game win streak snapped by Georgetown, 4-3. Joe LaSorsa got the start, and he went five innings, allowing four runs (1 ER) on five hits and two walks. Trailing 4-0 in the sixth, they rallied for a comeback beginning with a two-run shot by Wyatt Muscarella in the sixth and an RBI single by Sean McGeehan to make it 4-3. That was as close as they would get, though. They did get the tying run to second base in the ninth on a wild pitch but Ryan Hogan was struck out to end the game.

They will play the middle game of their series tonight at 7pm in Maryland. They are now 5-5 in Big East play with only eight remaining. They have an overall record of 23-15.
