Corey Phelan, Harborfields Defeat East Hampton, 10-3

Coming off yesterday’s low-scoring affair, Harborfields knew they needed to bounce back with a win at home and they answered the challenge with a 10-3 win over East Hampton on a gorgeous day in Greenlawn.

They fell behind 1-0 in the third on an RBI single by Kurt Matthews. The offense was dormant for the first two innings against East Hampton starter Colin Ruddy, but they got going in the third inning. Luke Mee hit a one-out single and moved to second on a walk to Jack Greco. Sean Keys tied it up on a bloop single to left field and James Romanelli gave them the lead with a single to center field.

Phelan put up a zero in the top of the fourth to get his offense back in the box. They added a run on an RBI ground out by Chris Miranda. They blew it pen in the fifth inning with a four-spot thanks to a bizarre play that scored two runs on a wild pitch and an RBI hit by Luke Mee.

East Hampton was able to score two runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Zach Barzilay and a sac fly by Austin Brown.

That’s all the offense Phelan would need, but they continued to take on with a three-spot in the sixth. Kyle Gordon came on in relief of Phelan and he was effective throwing 1.2 shutout innings of relief.

With the victory, they improve to 6-4 on the season. These two teams will be back in action on Friday at East Hampton for the rubber game of the series.
