Saturday’s College Baseball Recap (4/20) Presented by the Schwarz Institute

With the terrible weather yesterday morning, some fields were unplayable, but others with turf were able to push back the start times to later in the afternoon to get their games in.

Here’s how it went down:

Division-I:

St. John’s beat Villanova, 3-1. Two pitchers were all that were needed for them as Jeff Blege started and pitched the first 5.2 innings while only giving up one. Gavin Hollowell came on and finished the game from there pitching the final 3.2 innings. Mitchell Henshaw added a homerun that would prove to be the difference in the game.

Stony Brook took another one from Albany with a score of 7-4. Bret Clarke got the start and improved to 6-0 on the year, in a gutty performance. Aaron Glickstein came on in the 6th and finished the game from there earning his first save of the year. Chris Hamilton continued his hot hitting, going 3-3 on the day. Stony Brook was able to parlay sac flies, hit by pitches and a few timely hits to get enough runs to win.

Hofstra kept their winning streak alive, and brought it up to four with their 6-4 victory. Ryan Rue got the start and the win, pitching six strong innings of two run ball. Although they only had six hits, they were timely and capitalized on poor defense from UNCW. Parker Quinn came through with a homerun in the 6th, which helped Hofstra keep UNCW out of reach.

Division-II:

Adelphi won again, which has become a common theme for them this season as they’re now 27-5. Josh Royner got the start and his first win on the year as he pitched five innings of two run ball. The bullpen did enough in their four innings of work to hold the lead. Adelphi’s bats were alive all game totaling 13 hits. Lucas Terwilliger provided three hits, while driving in two runs. Michael Cattani also had three hits and two runs driven in.

LIU Post took both halves of the doubleheader against Molloy with score of 8-1 in game one and 3-2 in game two. Game one saw LIU Post score four in the first which was all they would have needed as Noah Lorenzo was dominant. Lorenzo threw a complete game and only let up one run, which was unearned. The bats took care of the rest as a collective effort saw Post get 13 hits and eight runs. Game two was a closer affair. Post starter Mike Stiles threw a complete game, which was seven innings of two run ball that would just edge Molloy. Anthony Vaglica hit the game winning home run in the 6th.

Division-III:

Old Westbury had their doubleheader against the College of New Rochelle postponed.

USMMA swept their doubleheader with scores of 10-8 in game one, and 4-3 in game two. Game one saw USMMA break out for three home runs, one by Garret Aichele, Vincenzo Altieri, and, Joshua Costlow. Altieri would hit another home run in game two which started the USMMA comeback. Kyle Cunningham tied the game in the 8th with an RBI triple and later scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

St. Joseph’s swept SUNY Purchase in a double header by the scores of 3-1 and 9-0. Tim Woodford improved to 5-1 with eight dominant innings in Game 1, allowing just five hits and one walk. Anthony Caminiti came on to record his third save of the season. Jesse Nakashian and Anthony Raucci recorded the RBIs. In the second game, Caminiti started and went the first three innings, and Austin Turner fired the final four innings to combine on the shutout. Michael Ferrufino hit a three-run home run and Justin Stromski had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
