Kevin Hahn Spins a 2-Hit Shutout in 90 Minutes

(Today was our Game of the Week Presented by Muddy Locker Sports. Please check them out by clicking here.)

In his first outing of the year, Kevin Hahn could not have looked more comfortable, even in moments of discomfort.

The senior right-hander took a line drive off his body and calmly picked the ball up and fired to first for an out in the fifth inning. He allowed only two hits and one walk in total and retired the last seven hitters to face him to complete the 1-0 shutout for the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms over Mount Sinai.

It was one of those games that moved quickly and if you stepped aside for a few moments you likely missed a couple innings. Both Hahn and T.J. DeGennero, the starter for Mount Sinai, were terrific in this game. They both cruised through the first inning without incident. The only blemish for DeGennero came in the second inning.

Max Devore started it off with a walk, and is usually the case in baseball, that came back to haunt the pitcher. The following batter, Dan Hoffman, also walked and they moved up on a wild pitch. After a strikeout and a walk off Richie Cimpric, Tyler Solomon came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out.

As BBP has done several times over the years, they were able to manufacture a run. Solomon executed a perfect safety squeeze to get the run home. That would be all the offense for the day.

The Phantoms did threaten again in the fifth, they loaded up the bases on a single by Solomon, an intentional walk to Luke Schartner and an infield hit by Hahn but the side was retired on an infield pop out.

Junior Ryan McNeely came on in relief for the Mustangs in the sixth inning and fired a scoreless inning working around a double.

With the victory, BBP improves to 4-2 while Mount Sinai drops to 3-2.
