April 10: Special Guest Joe Francisco
On this episode, we are filming from Francisco Baseball Academy with owner Joe Francisco. We discussed his upbringing in Queens and why he admired Ricky Henderson when he was young. Joe goes on to discuss how he was able to get a scholarship to Appalachian State during a 5-minute phone call from the late Jack Curran and how he wound up at Wagner College where he set 11 single-season marks including hits, run, stolen bases and batting average. Joe discusses the difficult transition to professional pitching and what makes that jump so hard. He also discusses why Long Island has developed so few professional position players and what it will take to change that. He discussed his relationship with 2017 second round pick Quentin Holmes and how he went from being a catcher to one of the best prep center fielders in the country. Joe discusses multi-sport athletes and his team the 13U nationally-ranked Team Francisco.
