In dominating fashion, MacArthur shut out Great Neck South on Thursday evening by a score of 8-0. With the victory, MacArthur sweeps the series to start their season off 3-0.
From the get go, it was obvious the Generals were going to be in control of this one.
After a scoreless first inning, Jimmy Mahoney and David Johnsen got things started as they both drove in runs in the second inning to provide MacArthur with an early 2-0 lead. This was all the run support Kyle Gaertner would need.
On the mound, Gaertner went the distance as he threw five shutout innings with six strike outs. Throughout the series, the MacArthur pitching staff only allowed two earned runs.

“We kept throwing strikes, this week our pitchers were in tact they made us make the plays in the field, kept attacking the zone and it’s a great way to start off the year,” said Gaertner. “Hopefully we’ll go into Calhoun with a positive mindset,” he added.
Gaertner also added to his performance on the mound with a sacrifice fly RBI in the 4th inning. Chris Roach, and Sean Tierney both had RBI in the victory as well.
With a perfect record to start off the young season, MacArthur faces a solid Calhoun team next week. Expect that to be a highly competitive series.
As for Great Neck South, they play Valley Stream Central next week with a chance to bounce back after starting the season off 0-3.
