In what was actually a rematch from last year’s playoff game in which Bay Shore outlasted Connetquot, this time it was the T-Birds that came out on top. With an offense that is relentless and arguably the top pitcher in the region on the mound, it was an easy 17-1 victory for Connetquot to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Joey Savino went six innings, he struck out eight and allowed one run on four hits.
“We were awake today, we came out with some energy,”said Savino. “My stuff was on today I felt really good, the warm weather was good. Overall a great team win,” he added.
The game was scoreless after one inning when the T-Birds stranded the bases loaded with 0 out, but they had no such struggles in the second inning. They sent 11 men to the plate, five walked, three got hits and they plated five runs with the big knock coming on a 2-R triple by Lucas Quinlan.
With Savino dealing the game was effectively over. He was sitting 87-89 MPH with a couple 90 MPH heaters to go along with his 75 MPH slider. The only challenge was the lengthy breaks in between innings, but he had no problem in the second inning recording two strikeouts.
The T-Birds batted around again in the fourth inning scoring five more runs on a two-run single by Quinlan, a two-run error and a bases loaded walk to Josh McGee.
They added seven more runs in the seventh inning with the first nine batters reaching base safely.
Connetquot has the makings of a special season. Next week will be a thrilling match up against rival Commack, which will certainly feature the coveted match up of Boston College-commit Jake Krzemienski and Savino on Monday.
