Division-I:

Fordham defeated Rhode Island, 2-0, behind a gem by Matt Mikulski. He allowed just three hits over seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts for his third win of the season. Kyle Martin and Anthony Zimmerman combined for two shutout innings of relief with Zimmerman recorded his second save of the season. After four scoreless innings, Fordham broke through on a fifth inning sac fly by C.J. Vazquez to score Nick Labella. They added an insurance run in the ninth on an error. They improve to 16-10 on the season, and they will continue their three-game set this afternoon at 1pm

St. John’s got back over the .500 mark with a 6-2 victory over St. Louis, to improve to 11-10. Junior left-hander Joe Lasorsa fired seven innings, allowing 0 ER with eight strikeouts. Joe Kelly recorded the two-inning save, his first of the season. St. John’s scored their first run in the third inning on a bases-loaded double play, they scored two in the sixth on an RBI double by Brandon Miller and RBI single by Ryan Markey. St. Louis got two unearned runs in the seventh, but the Red Storm piled on three more for good measure between the eighth and ninth. They will play again at 3pm this afternoon.

Hofstra ‘s tough season continued as they were shutout, 9-0, by the College of Charleston to fall to 3-16 on the season. This was the CAA conference opener. Michael James was tagged with the loss, he allowed nine runs on 11 hits over six innings of work. The bright spot was reigning Diamond Award winner, Mark Faello, firing two shutout innings. Offensively, tallied only four hits, two of which came by Rob Weissheier. They will be back in action today at 2pm in South Carolina.

Division-II

The story the past week has been the offensive explosion by LIU Post. They not only beat up on Liberty for four games last week, but they continued that run against powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas with a 25-5 win on Friday. They improved to 14-9 on the season and 5-0 in ECC play with the victory. James Varela pitched seven innings, striking out nine for his fourth win of the season. In addition to the 25 runs, they did so on 24 hits–nine doubles, a home run and eight walks. Giovanni Ciaccio and Andy Camilo both went 4-for-5. Mike Manzione, Anthony Vaglica, Reynaldo Guillen and Chris Wasson each had three hits. Zach Fritz who “only” had two hits, was responsible for the lone home run and drove in four runs. They are now hitting .292 as a team. They will play a DH at 1pm in Sparkill against St. Thomas Aquinas looking to keep this unbelievable stretch in tact in which they have averaged 20 runs a game for a week.

Queens and NYIT played a thrilling DH in Flushing. NYIT led 6-0 in the top of the third and figured to be continuing their hot stretch. Queens had other plans, though. They chipped away, scoring one in the fourth, three in the fifth, four in the eighth and two in the ninth with the walk-off coming on a single by Matt Gutleber. Lou Antos had three hits, Joe O’Rourke and Eric Roubal each had two. James McGee earned the win and Ariel Taveras was tagged with the loss. The Bears had 12 hits, Ben McNeill, E.J. Cumbo, John LaRocca and Chris Campbell each had two. They will play a DH today beginning at 12.

Molloy halted their six-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory over struggling Liberty. Tim Panetta went six innings, striking out 11 for his third win of the season. Anthony Pedraita fired three strong innings for the save. Offensively, they were led by Sean Hogan who had two hits, three RBI and scored a run. His RBI hit got them on the board in the first and re-gained the lead, 4-2, in the second. Chris Peralta had an RBI and scored two runs, Robby Keane had two hits and scored a run. They will be playing Lincoln in a DH today beginning at noon.

Division-III

Farmingdale cruised past Yeshiva in a DH sweep by the scores of 24-3 and 15-2 to improve to 12-5 on the season. I will spare all the details, but the offense had no issue on this day. The winning pitchers were Robert Belotti and Kenneth Simco. They had 22 hits in Game 1 and 16 in Game 2. They will regroup today before playing a crucial DH against St. Joseph’s tomorrow in Patchogue.

Junior College:

Suffolk defeated Monroe, 9-2, in Medford. Ciaran McGinnis was the winning pitcher, he struck out 11 over six innings, allowing two runs. Kenny Holleday, Ryan Dunbar and Frank Gebel added shutout innings of relief. Corey Tingo had two hits and scored two runs, Andrew Fenton scored two runs. They improve to 7-4 and will face Monroe again today in the Bronx for a DH.
