On Thursday afternoon, Seaford crushed Carle Place 10-1 in a non-league contest.
From the beginning of this game, Seaford’s offense was clicking on all cylinders. Tim Saulpaugh drove in the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st. Saulpaugh finished 2-3 on the day with 2 RBI.
“We were seeing the ball well and we kept hitting the ball hard staying calm and relaxed getting a lot of guys on base,” said Saulpaugh. “In the field we played very nice didn’t make many errors and we looked very good today in our season opener,” he added.
Seaford tacked onto their lead with two more in the third inning, courtesy of a Nick Barrerios 2 RBI double. Barrerios also had a fantastic day at the plate, as he finished with 3 RBI. Their lead would expand to 5-0 after four innings.
In total, five different Seaford players had RBI, including Richie Apollo, Logan Masters and Kyle Schmitt.
Considering Frank Cozzolino and Chris Pupa brought their best stuff to the ballpark with them, Carle Place stood little chance of stringing hits together. The two hard throwing juniors combined for six innings, allowing one earned run.
“I came out there throwing strikes and staying ahead of batters,” said Cozzolino.”Our hitting too 1-9 everyone can hit and same with our pitchers everyone can pitch,” he added.
After leading 5-1 heading into the 5th, Seaford struck for five more runs in the 6th, providing them with an insurmountable lead. When it was all said and done, Seaford walked out with a 10-1 victory to jump start their season.
Seaford opens up conference play against Locust Valley on March 8th.
