North Shore Pitching Dominant In 6-1 Victory Over Syosset

On Wednesday afternoon, North Shore defeated Syosset 6-1 in non-league play to earn their second win of the young season.

Dan Livoti got the start for North Shore and was phenomenal. His first start of the season included no earned runs over five innings pitched. After being named All-Conference in 2018, it’s safe to say he picked up where he left off.

“I was working my off speed pitches throwing them for strikes and starting off with strikes,” said Livoti. “We came out here aggressive in the first inning and we did our best to win,” he added.

After being shut down offensively the first two innings, the North Shore bats woke up significantly in the third inning. To begin the inning, they had bases loaded and nobody out. When the half inning was over, they brought in five runs, providing them with a comfortable lead. The five-run rally was highlighted by a Matt Lewin 2 RBI double and a 2 RBI suicide squeeze from Mike Tedesco. Lewin finished 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI.

“At the plate we want to be aggressive early in the count, we want to hunt pitches and on the base paths we want to be aggressive and put pressure on the defense,” said Head Coach Scott Lineman.

Following the third inning, things would stay quiet on both sides as the North Shore pitching staff continued to dominate. The Vikings and Braves both tacked on a run each in the 7th inning, but it was North Shore who came out on top when it was all said and done.

“The aggressiveness definitely gives us momentum, gives us confidence and the defense on the other team gets rattled at times, but we’re constantly trying to get them to make mistakes and put pressure on them,” said Coach Lineman.

Sitting at 1-1 on the year, Syosset will face MacArthur and Bellmore JFK in non-league action next week before their conference play begins against Freeport.

As for North Shore, they open up their season with back-to-back victories. They also have two non-league games next week before they are tested with Wantagh to begin their season on April 8th.

“We have a very tough league, we have to keep it up working on our game in all facets whether it be on defense, offense, pitching so that we’re successful when it comes to league play because it’s going to be very competitive and we need to execute when it comes down to it. We have experience, but we need to execute,” said Coach Lineman.
