NYIT Continues to Roll, Sweeps Molloy to Improve to 12-4

NYIT was on a mission this weekend, as they attempted to stay hot and continue their streak of strong play into the ECC Conference schedule.

They were successful winning game one 7-5, and game two 5-3, keeping them perfect in conference play.

Game one saw the Bears lineup produce timely hit after timely hit. It started with Chris Campbell, who got the scoring started with an RBI single in the second. The scoring would continue, and they would get extend the lead to 4-0 thanks to a double play scored a run and Ben McNeill’s RB single and an unearned run.

E.J. Cumbo continued his torrid start to the season, going 3-4 with a run scored. Kieran Dowd and Joseph Pesce added two hits a piece.

As for their pitching, Joseph Murphy would come out and throw 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, who relieved Chris Keenan, giving up only one run (zero earned) while striking out four. earning himself his 4th win of the season. 

Molloy showed fight, rallying to get the tying runs on base in the 9th, before falling just short. Ariel Taveras recorded his seventh save of the season.

Game two had a similar start for NYIT, as Chris Campbell started the scoring with an RBI double in the 2nd. Molloy for their part would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th, before giving it right back in the bottom of the inning. Zach Kleinwaks tied the game with a pinch-hit, RBI single. The Bears would ultimately take the lead on a wild pitch that scored Matt Malone, and they wouldn’t look back.

Elvin Ramos Jr came on and recorded one out but earned the victory. Taveras saved his eighth game of the season.

The sweep of the doubleheader gives NYIT a 12-4 record on the season, while Molloy falls to 3-14 on the year.
