Adelphi Bats Stay Hot, Defeat NYIT 9-3

Adelphi had no problem handling the talented NYIT pitching staff, as they cruised to a 9-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

After putting up a ten-spot yesterday against Molloy, Adelphi wasted no time getting back in the run column.

To start things off, Brett Malm launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning, giving them an early lead. Malm finished 3-5 on the day with 2 RBI.

“We had a good jump out of the game today with a 2-run home run in the 1st inning that helped my team get on the board early,” said Malm. “We kept it going from yesterday and we’re going to keep this momentum going forward and try to take it into conference play this weekend,” he added.

Danny Taggart got the start for Adelphi and did a phenomenal job of getting out of jams. Through 3.2 innings, he allowed six base runners, only surrendering one earned run. The bullpen behind him also got the job done, as they combined for 5.1 innings, allowing four base hits and one earned run.

After another 2-run home run courtesy of Thomas Columbo, Adelphi jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the 3rd inning. However, NYIT fought back as they scratched across two runs in the 4th inning to cut the deficit.

The offense didn’t stop for Adelphi, as they answered back with three runs of their own, providing themselves with a four-run lead heading into the 8th.

Trailing by four runs, NYIT had the bases loaded with one out and the tying run at the plate. Just like they did all day, the Adelphi pitching staff kept finding way to work out of jams. Tom Ambrosino forced a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning unharmed, ultimately ruining any chance for NYIT to come back.

When it was all said and done, Adelphi came out on top 9-3.

Adelphi begins conference play this weekend as they open up against Assumption on Saturday at noon. As for NYIT, they play Molloy on Friday at 3:30 PM.
