Bay Shore Hoping To Continue Momentum From Last Year’s Postseason Run

Coming off a year where they defeated #1 seed Smithtown East and No.8 Connetquot in the postseason, Bay Shore enters the 2019 season with high hopes.

“Our boys believe we can beat anyone on the island and we proved that last year. Expect us to play hard and compete. Should be right in the thick of things,” said Head Coach Mike Herbst.

The main obstacle Bay Shore will have is the extremely tough competition in League II. Last season, they were fortunate enough to sneak into the playoffs with a 10-10 record. Rather than having to stress about making the playoffs, they know they have the talent to comfortably earn a better seed.

League II consists of Commack, Sachem North, Connetquot, Walt Whitman, Lindenhurst and Riverhead. Undoubtedly, this is one of the toughest leagues on Long Island.

In addition to their returning players from last year’s playoff team, Bay Shore will have newcomers ready to make a significant impact right away. Their most dangerous addition is Alvin Community College-commit Jaison Andujar. The 6’2″ transfer is a five tool outfielder who has already earned draft cards from the Reds, Phillies and Yankees. Don’t be surprised if he winds up elevating himself into the conversation for an MLB Draft candidate.

Another strength Bay Shore possesses is their returning talent. Farmingdale-commit (SS/P) Tommy Secaira will be the centerpiece of this team. He has an outstanding glove, great gap power with quick hands and is emerging as a threat on the mound. Ryan Brewer, Jason Ambos, Jayden Colon and Matt Rouleau will all be vital towards their offensive success.

The ace of their rotation will be Joshuel Rodriguez. After being named All-County last season, Rodriguez expects to continue his success in League II. He throws in the mid 80’s, including a sharp breaking ball. At the plate, he’s a middle-of-the-lineup batter with power.

Behind Rodriguez in the rotation is Anthony Frascogna. The crafty senior loves pitching in big spots, as he shut down some very talented offenses last season. Sophomore Coltrane Calloway will also hope to eat some innings on the mound, he has a tremendously high ceiling and saw some innings as a freshman.

Although Bay Shore enters 2019 with an extremely tough schedule ahead, they believe they can compete with the most talented teams. After a strong postseason in 2018, momentum is still on their side. They are once again ready to shock the island.
