Logan O’Hoppe to Receive 2018 Axcess Man of the Year Award

It’s been a year of accomplishments for St. John the Baptist grad Logan O’Hoppe.

First, he led the Cougars to the CHSAA Championship, then he was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the MLB Draft and finally he was named 1st Team All-American Gold Glove Award winner by Rawlings. The latter of which was awarded to the top prep catcher in the country. Only three base runners attempted steals on him this season.

He can add one more award to his mantle, as he was voted the 2018 Axcess Baseball Man of the Year by his peers, garnering 62 percent of the votes, edging out Anthony D’Onofrio and Matt Hogan.

Since getting drafted, he has further raised his stock. He posted a slash line of .367/..411/.532, proving he is not simply a defensive-minded catcher.

He had the following to say:

“Winning the Man of the Year Award is a very humbling achievement. Both Anthony and Matt are two amazing humans who I’ve been lucky enough to play with since I was 12-years-old.

“Winning an award like this is a reminder that baseball and my path has been much greater than myself. Thank you to my parents for supporting me and helping me surround myself with the right people. Between the Titans organization, SJB, and the Phillies organization, there have been an overwhelming amount of people that have but their time into me in order to put me in the best position to succeed. Thank you Casey McKay, Tom Downey, Paul Parsolano, Brian Anderson, Ronny Mckay, and Coach Dalton for giving me your time and attention in my youth and highschool years. My first year in professional baseball I felt that everyone I was surrounded with was encouraging and helpful. Matt Hockenberry and Chris Heintz were two coaches in particular that helped me improve the most. Thank you to everyone that has supported me and given me their time to make me the player I am today.”

The previous winner of this award was Brian Morrell in 2017.
