Kevin Bowrosen’s Bases-Clearing Triple Propels Body Armor to 3-1 Victory in Metropolitan Classic

Great hitters are able to notice patterns in opposing pitchers and capitalize when they make mistakes.

James Madison-commit Kevin Bowrosen (Miller Place 2020) is that caliber of hitter. And the mistake happened to be a critical one in the fifth inning with the bases loaded with his Body Armor Titans team trailing 1-0.

The Miller Place infielder took a 1-1 fastball and ripped it into the left-center field alley way to score Josh Graham, Luke Orbon and Danny Corona which proved to be the difference in the game.

“The pitcher was sitting outside on me the whole time so I waited on that pitch and put it into left-center and all three runs scored. It put us in a good place to win the whole tournament,” said Bowrosen.

With the Titans in the lead, they turned to hard-throwing RHP Josh Graham. The incoming sophomore worked around two walks in the sixth, using a 6-4-3 DP to escape the jam and put up a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh inning to secure the save and slam the door on the 3-1 victory.

The game was started by Newfield incoming sophomore Dylan Johnson. The side-slinging RHP was terrific, firing five inning, allowing just one unearned run. Opposing pitcher, Daniel Prior was matching him zero-for-zero, though, through three innings until the Bay Sox broke through in an unconventional manner.

With the bases loaded in the fourth inning in a 0-0 game, Johnson induced a seemingly innocuous ground ball to second base but it scooted under the infielder’s glove into right field to score the first inning. Bowrosen came up firing to nail the second runner at the plate, although, it was costly for the Titans as catcher Cole Houser got caught up in an awkward position with the runner sliding and wound up suffering a lower body injury that caused him to exit the game.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Bay Sox until the fifth when Prior ran into trouble. After a fly out, he allowed a one-out opposite field double down the right field line to Graham. With the third baseman drawn back, the speedy Orbon dropped down a perfect bunt that deadened in front of home plate that allowed him to easily reach safely. A one-out walk to leadoff batter Danny Corona set the stage for the uber-dangerous Bowrosen. The left-handed batter with a sweet stroke laced one into the alley to set the carousel in motion and allow the Titans to take a lead they would not relinquish.

With the victory, they advance to face All Star Baseball Academy tomorrow at 11:00am. If they win, they would advance to the playoffs of the Metropolitan Classic at St. John’s University.
