The Long Island Titans tallied their seventh win of the season Wednesday evening behind a dominant performance on the mound by Nicholas Incalcaterra.
The Titans defeated Long Island Baseball, 4-1, in a game where LIB only had two runners make it to second base.
Incalcaterra pitched six innings of one-run ball, struck out eight, and allowed only three hits.
After Incalcaterra struck out the side in the top of the first inning, the Titans didn’t waste any time putting runs on the board. In the bottom half of the inning, Phillip Krpata ledoff with a line drive base hit up the middle. Krpata then stole both second and third base. Two batters later, three hitter Charlie Cucchiara knocked Krpata in with a double to deep center field. Cucchiara stole third and later scored on a single by Ryan Pennisi.
Incalcaterra shut down LIB in the top of the second and the Titans again took advantage. In the bottom of the second, Jake Pierre knocked a one-out double and two batters later he scored on a single hit by Nicholas Schwartz giving the Titans a 3-0 lead.
LIB responded in the top of the third. David Johnson led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base. A strikeout later, Johnson scored on Kevin Bell’s single to right field decreasing LIB’s deficit to two runs.
After conceding the run, the Titans got it right back. In the bottom of the third, Pennisi’s hit a leadoff double and immediately after scored on a double hit by Justin Ventura putting the Titans up 4-1.
The 4-1 score would end up being the final as neither team was able to create much offense after the third.
After the game Incalcaterra discussed his great outing. “I felt really good out there today” the righty said, noting that his defense helped him out on the mound.
