LI Baseball showed up to Plainedge High School ready to roll on this Thursday night.
Ted Valenti toed the rubber in the top of the 1st for the LI Thunder ready to try to lead his team to victory in their Brian Moore Memorial Tournament matchup. Unfortunately for him, LI Baseball had their A-game ready at the plate, prepared to display their dominant lineup.
LIB got off to a strong start with a 3-run top of the 1st inning, courtesy of an RBI single by cleanup batter Paul DePaulis, an RBI ground out by Zach Zarra, and a 2-out error at second base by the Thunder.
The Thunder were quick to respond in the bottom of the 1st with 2 runs of their own after a fielder’s choice off the bat of Rob Delpesce brought home Joe Leone, and a clutch 2-out RBI single by AJ Digrigoli.
No runs came across in the 2nd inning, and it seemed both pitchers had settled down and were ready to take control of the game.
Then LIB’s lineup asserted its dominance. In the top of the 3rd inning, LIB scored 8 runs on 6 hits, headlined by a 2 RBI triple by Zarra and RBI double’s by both James Muscat and Kyle Pellegrino.
LI Thunder came back with one last spark of energy, as 3-batter DJ Kregoloh hit a rocket over the right field wall to lead off the bottom of the 3rd, but that was all they had left in the tank.
After no runs came across in the 4th inning, LIB tacked on 1 more run in the top of the 5th with an RBI double by their 3-batter, Nick DaGnello. The game was wrapped up in the bottom half of the inning as LIB finished off their 5-inning run rule 12-3 victory.
It was an absolute hitting clinic displayed by LIB as they racked up 12 runs on 14 hits in just 5 innings. Garrett Scavelli, Nick Bell, DaGnello, DePaulis, and James Daly all had multi-hit games. 8 out of 10 batters in the lineup recorded hits.
Coach Chuck Lodato was very proud of his team’s dominant performance as he remarked to me after the game, “tonight everything started to gel and come together nicely, and I’m proud of the boys they did a nice job tonight.”
“Great job tonight fellas” Coach Lodato said jubilantly as he applauded his players. It was a great job indeed.
