On Friday, both the Sag Harbor Whalers and the North Fork Ospreys had a double header scheduled, not against each other, at Baseball Heaven. The two teams met right after they played their first games. The Whalers lost earlier in the day to the Riverhead Tomcats and the Ospreys pulled out a victory against the Southampton Breakers.
When the two teams matched up for their second game, both teams looked evenly matched throughout the whole game and eventually ended in a 4-4 tie after an inning of extra innings.
The Whalers got the scoring started early as Sam Cachola raced around to score the first run of the game on the RBI double from Nick Thornquist. The Whalers were unable to add any more runs in the inning after a base running mistake by Thornquist that led to an inning ending double play.

The Ospreys got the run right back in the bottom of the first after Tyresse Clayborne reached base on a hit by pitch and was driven in three batters later on an RBI single from Brendan Bean to tie the game.
Whalers starter Michael Marzonie was able to work out of the first inning jam by retiring the final two batters of the inning with the Ospreys threatening to score more with runners on third and first base.
Wasting no time to untie the game, the Whalers took the lead 2-1 in the top of the second. Joe Suozzi laid a perfect bunt down the third base line for a hit and the next batter, Luis Guerrero, slapped a base hit through the vacated hole on the right side of the infield thanks to Suozzi running on the pitch. The next batter, Bryan Rubin, hit a sacrifice fly to give the Whalers the lead.
After Marzonie retired the side in the bottom of the second, the Whalers added to their lead in the top of the third. Thornquist hit a hanging off speed pitch, that was nearly eye level, over the left field wall for a solo home run giving the Whalers a 3-1 lead. That home run was Thornquist’s third of the summer.
The Ospreys responded to the Whalers adding to their lead in the bottom of the third. Steele Netterville hit a no doubter over the left center field fence for his first home run of the summer. The run got the Ospreys one run closer trailing 3-2.
After the Whalers were thrown out twice on the base paths in the top of the fourth, Ben Terwilliger tied the game for the Ospreys with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning. The home run was Terwilliger’s second of the summer.
After a scoreless fifth inning from both clubs, Connor Anderson lead off the top of the sixth with a home run over the right field fence. The home run gave the Whalers a 4-3 lead at the time and it was Anderson’s second of the summer.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nolan Kessinger stepped up with one out for the Ospreys trailing 4-3. On a full count, Kessinger launched a home run over the score board in right field tying the game at 4.
Neither team was able to score after Kessinger’s home run and after one inning of extra innings, the game was finished in a 4-4 tie.
Our player of the game was Nolan Kessinger thanks in part to his late inning heroics with a home run with the game on the line.
