Five teams took the field Friday. Teams went 2-4 on the day, with Adelphi winning in dramatic fashion. Read below to see how the games unfolded:
Division-I:
St. Johns: No. St. Johns lost to Kansas 7-4. After gaining an early 3-0 lead, the Jayhawks stormed back, scoring five runs in the third inning. St. Johns second baseman Josh Shaw continued his impressive junior season, going 2-for-4 on the day with one double and two runs scored. Outfielder Mike Antico drove in the first two runs of the day with a second inning two-run single. The loss was just the second for St. Johns this season.
Division-II:
Molloy: Molloy defeated Stonehill 6-4. After trailing 4-1 in the fifth, the Lions stormed back, scoring four in the bottom half of the frame and one more in the sixth. First baseman Harrison Sabo went 3-for-5 on the afternoon, driving in one as well. Timothy Panetta relieved C.J Schildt in the third inning and proceeded to go five innings, giving up only two earned runs for his first win of the season.
Queens: Queens lost to Shephard 4-1. The Knights dug themselves an early hole as Shephard plated three in the first four innings. Left fielder Sam Siegal delivered his first homerun of the season in the 8th inning to cut the lead to 3-1 at that point. Queens left eight men on base while also committing three errors on the day. Dennis Buckstein was solid in the loss, going seven innings, giving up three and striking out five.
Adelphi: Adelphi defeated Wilmington 4-3 in 12 innings. Brandon Morse delivered the game winning hit in 12th inning to move the Panthers to 3-1-1 on the season. Morse went 2-for-6 on the day with a two RBI triple in the eighth. Adelphi pounded out 12 hits on the night from nine different batters. A complete effort for the Panthers pitching staff, as seven pitchers combined to go the distance while striking out 10. Max Steele earned his first victory of the season.
St. Josephs: The Golden Eagles split their DH with Lesley University. Their victory came by the score of 9-2 and it featured a CG by junior Joseph Murphy, who fired all seven innings, allowing only five hits, two runs and striking out seven batters. The big blow came on Paul Britt’s grand slam in the fifth inning which scored Tyler Costa, Louis Fontinha and Anthony Raucci. The Golden Eagles smacked 12 hits, including two from Costa and Tyler Sanderson.
