Dylan Resk’s Clutch Hit Delivers Stony Brook Victory in Home Opener

The big hit came on a two-run double by Dylan Resk in the sixth inning to score Brandon Alamo and Nick Grande which erased a 3-2 deficit.

“For whatever reason we seemed to be out of our approach early in the game,” said Coach Matt Senk. “Obviously we preach being aggressive but we were being over-aggressive. Dylan had a really at bat there and came up with a big swing for us to take the lead,” he added.

They still needed to get some big outs from their relievers, which is exactly what happened. Freshman Brian Morrisey (Commack) came on in relief and fired 1.2 shutout innings, before giving way to the closer, Aaron Pinto, who made a great 3-2 pitch to strike out Matt Padre on a 93 MPH heater to end the threat.

Pinto came back out for the ninth and fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fifth save of the young season.

“Pinto was Pinto. That’s what he’s been doing all year. That’s save five, it probably has him leading the nation

Kevin Kernan got the start for the Sea Wolves and he pitched four shutout innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three and walking two.

The Sea Wolves took a 1-0 lead when Brandon Alamo ripped a two-run single to score Bobby Honeyman and Nick Grande.

The lead did not last long, as the Jaspers tied it up in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Matt Morgan off Nick Insognia. In the top of the sixth, they took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single by Matt Padre.

Having played against the No. 1 ranked team in the nation already, the Sea Wolves did not waiver one bit. They responded in the sixth with the clutch hit by Resk and that was all the offense they would need.

They improve to 7-4 on the season and will be back in action this weekend in a three-game series against Wagner.
