With so many young pitchers having their seasons cut short due to injuries or innings limits, travel teams that compete in fall ball have found it increasingly difficult to fill the necessary innings on the mound. To combat this issue, Paul Gibson III and Scott June have put together a “Fall Machine League” which will begin on September 14 and run through October 20.
June, Co-Director of the league and a co-owner of All Pro Sports Academy in Bellport, sees this as a great opportunity for middle school and high school hitters to gain roughly 60 at bats prior to the 2017 season coming to a close.
He decided to put this together at the recommendation of Paul Gibson, Special Assistant for Pitching Development with the Kansas City Royals, when he noticed how big this concept was becoming in Georgia.
Aside from the absence of pitchers, the league will play with essentially all the same rules of a typical amateur baseball game and will use standard sized baseballs. The only other variation is that batters will have three swings to put the ball in play (foul on a third swing is an out).
In addition to an umpire, a professional scorekeeper will be present at all games and a field manager will be on site at all times. Games will be played on the Town of Brookhaven fields.
Also, all players in the league will receive an impartial evaluation from Paul Gibson on “Evaluation Day”.
The age groups will be 11/12U,13/14U, JV and Varsity.
Teams can register by calling All Pro at 631-286-5144.
