Nassau Class A Power Rankings (4th Edition)

With one week remaining in the regular season, things are really starting to heat up in Class A. As of right now, there is not one dominant team in Nassau County. This means that we are in for an outstanding postseason. With that being said, here’s this weeks new and improved top 5.

5) Lynbrook (9-3) (Last week: 2)

After dropping the first 2 games of the series to North Shore, the Owls bounced back in game 3, winning 11-3. Last week marked Lynbrook’s first series loss all year, but they have no reason to panic. North Shore always seems to get hot at the right time, so it makes plenty of sense that they played their best baseball of the year last week. With 3 games left to play, Lynbrook still holds a 2 game lead for first place. All they have to do is beat Valley Stream South once, and they will be crowned conference A4 champions. We’ll see if the Lynbrook bats can build off of their 11 run victory in their last game.

4) Garden City (9-2-1) (Last week: 5)

Garden City continues to impress week in week out. After outscoring Great Neck South 22-1 in the 3 game series, it’s safe to say that these Trojans are for real. Much like they have all season, TJ McEvoy and Erik Wortmann continue to impress. McEvoy collected 6 hits in the series and Wortmann pitched 6 shutout innings, followed by a homerun at the plate. Garden City will have a tough series this week against Manhasset, as they try to capture the conference title with a sweep.

3) Plainedge (10-2) (Last week: 4)

The Red Devils are hot, and they don’t seem to be cooling off anytime soon. The 31-1 run differential against Glen Cove last week proves it. Although their entire lineup was impressive last week, Jason Bottari was the standout player. Bottari went 8-12 in the series with 3 doubles and 6 RBI’s. Billy Wildeman still hasn’t allowed an earned run all season, which means he’s definitely up for the diamond award. Jake Esposito and Nick DeMicco both launched their first homeruns of the season last week. Plainedge will face the Bethpage Golden Eagles in a highly anticipated 3 game series.

2) Seaford (10-2) (Last week: 3)

The Seaford team everyone had hoped for all season is finally here. Standing at 10-2 on the season, it’s likely that they will capture the Conference A5 title. Due to their talent on the mound, this Seaford team can go a long way come the postseason. Over their past 10 games, the Vikings have only allowed 20 runs, averaging to 2 runs per game. If Mike Tito and AJ Cain can continue to be dominant, anything is possible for this Seaford team. They will face Harrison Cohen and Cold Spring Harbor next week for their final series of the regular season.

1) Wantagh (10-2) (Last week: 1)

Once again, Wantagh has raised some red flags. After barely beating South Side in all 3 games, questions start to linger around the county and eyes are starting to open. With severe struggles offensively, these Warriors really need to wake up if they wish to repeat as county champions. They will continue to ride the arms of flamethrower Jimmy Joyce and southpaw Brendan Haas. Wantagh will face Division this week in a heated three-game series. Don’t be surprised if there’s a ton of trash talking and some ejections, this is the series of the year for both teams.
