Nassau Class AA Power Rankings (3rd Edition)

There’s a new #1 team in this week’s power rankings which shouldn’t come to a surprise to anyone. Officially more than halfway done with the season, here’s your top 5 teams heading into this week.

5) Farmingdale (8-4) (Last week: 5)

An impressive victory over Oceanside keeps Farmingdale locked in the top 5. Pitching is clearly a stronghold for this Farmingdale team, as they haven’t given up more than 6 runs all season. Not only do the Dalers have a strong rotation, but they have a talented bullpen as well, led by Anthony Burriesci. After their bye week, the Dalers have their toughest series of the season coming up against Massapequa.

4) East Meadow (8-4) (Last week: Unranked)

The defending county champions are finally back in the top 5 after being left out all season long. Although the Jets lack experience, they still have potential for a deep playoff run. Senior Justin Reyes is definitely a player to be on the lookout for, as he’s heating up at the right time. East Meadow will face Herricks in a 3 game series, which could make or break the Jets season.

3) Oceanside (7-1-1) (Last week: 3)

The Sailors finally suffered their first loss of the season this past week to Farmingdale. After coming off of a no hit performance last week, Matt Carey didn’t seem to have his stuff in the game 2 loss. Luckily for the Sailors, Brendan McFall was able to shut the door down in game 3 to secure the series win. McFall is definitely a candidate for the diamond award on the mound, and don’t be surprised if you see him pitching on 2-3 days rest in the playoffs, similar to how Oceanside used Kyle Martin last year. Their attention will turn to Massapequa, as they look to hand them their first loss of the season next week.

2) Plainview JFK (8-1) (Last week: 1)

The #1 team has finally been dethroned, for now. Although they may have lost to a decent Herricks team last week, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about for the Hawks. In what seems to be a 2 horse race headed into the postseason between Plainview and Massapequa, it will be Plainview’s job to make sure they win every game from here on out. Matt Butigan slowly getting back to full health will certainty help them out for these next few weeks. Expect a Plainview sweep against Long Beach next week.

1) Massapequa (9-0) (Last week: 2)

The only undefeated team in Nassau County earns the top spot for this week’s power rankings. Blowing out every team they’ve faced has been the theme for the Chiefs in 2017. As the season keeps moving along, it seems more and more likely that the Chiefs will finish the season without losing a single game. Led by Matt Pinto and Luke O’Mahoney offensively, the Chiefs will continue to try and put up double digits, something they have done 5 times this season. Massapequa has their biggest series of the year coming up next week against Oceanside.

  1. Oceanside won the rubber game 1-0, Mcfall pitched a great game for the win but Justin Rosner pitched 6 innings with 2K, 1 hit batter which was the run that scored on a sac fly and only gave up 3 hits. Farmingdale also had at least 2 men on base in I believe 5 out off the 7 innings. So the 14 year old freshman pitched a great game as well. He also had 10K, 1 hit, 5 IP start against Freeport for the win.
