Plainview Defeats Calhoun To Remain Undefeated

The Plainview Hawks came out on top Saturday afternoon at Joe Corea Field, defeating the Calhoun Colts 6-5 in a tight ballgame.

It’s safe to say Plainview is the real deal. This win improves the Hawks record to 6-0 on the year, sweeping their second consecutive opponent.

“We’re really deep this year, our pitching is going to carry us and the sky is the limit for this team,” stated starting pitcher Justin Kim.

Kim was the winning pitcher in this ballgame, going 5 solid innings, striking out 7 and allowing 3 runs.

Although this win was a great team win from the Hawks, the story of this game was Mark Faello. Faello who is the star player for this undefeated Hawks team contributed offensively, defensively and on the mound.

At the plate, Faello launched a moonshot over the left field fence to put the Hawks on the board in the bottom of the 1st.. As imagined, Calhoun would proceed to pitch around him the rest of the game.

Faello would finish the game offensively reaching base in all 4 at bats, going 1-1 with a solo homerun, 2 runs scored, and 3 walks. 2 of the walks were intentional.

“I obviously didn’t like being walked 3 times in a row, but I took it as an honor of respect and I’m just excited our team got the win today,” Faello responded when asked how he felt about getting the “Barry Bonds treatment.”

On the mound, Faello completed the impressive 3 out save, striking out 2 batters and getting the last batter to ground out.

As for Calhoun, they fall to 6-3 with the loss and will take on East Meadow in a crucial 3 game series starting on Monday. Plainview will look to continue their winning ways next week as they face Herricks in a 3 game series, a team that Calhoun recently swept.
