Wheatley ace Antonio Deodato underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Wednesday afternoon. The LIU Post-commit is one of the best left-handed pitchers on Long Island. He was named to our pre-season Top 30 list and is coming off a tremendous 2016 season in which he led his team to the Long Island Class B Championship.
The procedure was performed by Dr. David Alchek–who is considered among the best orthopedic surgeons in the world at this procedure.
The LHP was in good spirits despite the grim news that he would miss the remainder of his senior season.
“I’m grateful to have had it done by the best,” said Deodato. “I’ll do whatever I can to step back on that mound and be even better than who I was before the operation,” he added.
Deodato noted that Alchek believes the injury was caused by “wear-and-tear, a constant build up of tearing the ligament, and eventually it just completely tore off.”
He was pretty darn good before the procedure. We wrote a feature story on him last June profiling how quickly he put himself on the radar of top uncommitted players on Long Island.
The LIU Post-commit will work hard to contribute at some point in 2018.
