Tier 1: The Elite
- St. John’s (Record: 18-2, Stock UP)
Status quo for the Red Storm. They swept Maine this week. Sean Mooney fired the program’s first complete game since 2015 and he needed only 99 pitches to do so. They are firing on all cylinders.
Tier 2: Trending Up
2. Adelphi (Record: 13-7, Stock UP)
Terrific weekend for the Panthers, who won three of four conference games. They are getting contributions up and down the lineup–they averaged 7.9 runs per game this weekend. They now have seven regulars hitting .299 or better highlighted by Brandon Morse’s .382 AVG. Another dominant outing from T.J. Santiago on Saturday. Very important relief outing this afternoon from Chris Lemorocco to bridge the gap to the bullpen. The back end of the bullpen of Michael Tarpey and Andrew Sesto has been superb.
3. Stony Brook (Record: 8-13, Stock UP)
Nice weekend for the Sea Wolves, who won two of three from Hartford. Their lone loss was a 8-7 heart breaker in which they squandered a 7-5 lead but bounced back with two convincing wins directly after. Brian Herrmann continues to come up gold for the rotation.
4. St. Joseph’s (Record: 8-4, Stock UP)
They ran through Yeshiva with no problem. Josh Outsen fanned 14 in a one-hitter after throwing perfect games against them the previous two seasons. The combination of him, Nick Clemente and Brandon Lubrano have been terrific. They are now hitting .332 with a .419 OBP.
5. Maritime (Record: 9-6, Stock UP)
They won all four games this weekend. Huge sweep of Old Westbury to prove their legitimacy. Travis Bruinsma continues to come up aces. He’s now 4-0 and making a case for Pitcher of the Year. Steve Semler is making a case for Player of the Year. He has four HR and 18 RBI which equates to a .769 SLG. They have six regulars hitting over .360. Brian McLaughlin is hitting a torrid .395, Aaron Shiavoni is hitting .391, Connor Alwan at .372 and Matt Costleigh is up to .360. They get Yeshiva this weekend as well.
Tier 3: Getting There
6. LIU Post (Record: 10-10, Stock EVEN)
They were trending up after an impressive sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday but were swept tonight by them tonight. The offense has been led by five starters who are all hitting .318 or better–led by Rob Andreoli‘s .366 AVG. Noah Lorenzo (4-1) and Jake DeCarli (3-1) have accounted for seven of their 10 wins.
7. Fordham (Record: 8-11, Stock DOWN)
They lost two of three to George Mason this weekend. They spoiled a gem by Jimmy Murphy in the opener, he has been terrific this season. They savaged the series today thanks to five shutdown innings of relief from freshman Alvin Melendez and a big offensive day from Mark Donadio.
8. Molloy (Record: 6-13, Stock UP)
A much-needed weekend sweep. They appear to have turned things around at just the right time. They allowed only four runs in the three games. Today they got two gems. Bobby Kelly fired a two-hit shutout with 11 K’s followed by Dominick Danetti’s one-hit masterpiece. Brian Murphy is red-hot at the plate and he’s up to .343 on the season.
9. Old Westbury (Record: 9-8, Stock EVEN)
They swept Yeshiva, split with Castleton but were swept by Maritime today–losing a heartbreaker in the first game. They are hitting .332, with Tommy Ziegen (.444) and Jesse Russo (.431) leading the charge but they have committed 35 errors which has cost them.
10. Nassau (Record: 5-3, Stock UP)
Transfer additions Morgan McCarthy, Mike Siklas and Brian Perez have partnered with Dominican College-commit Elijah Tavares have solidified the infield. They are averaging 6.5 runs per game and Jimmy Murphy and Joe Minucci are both 2-0.
11. Farmingdale (Record: 6-8, Stock UP)
They bounced back nicely from Thursday’s loss to Kean by winning three of the next four. They swept Merchant Marines on Friday and split with Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday. Matthew Constantine fired six shutout innings today and Matt Seelinger slammed the door for the save. The middle of the order of Dalton McCarthy, Vinny Rice, Nick Osburn and Christopher Reilly are all hitting above .316.
12. Queens (Record: 6-7, Stock DOWN)
They went 1-3 this week with the one win coming against Pace. Joe Broderick struck out 13 with zero walks in a complete game gem. The combination of him and Nick Morena has kept them afloat but they will need to get the offense going, as they have a .300 SLG. Thomas Parish (.351) and Kevin Kolesar (.367) are both enjoying strong offensive seasons.
Tier 4: Needs Hot Streak
13. Suffolk (Record: 4-5, Stock EVEN)
We covered their midweek game against Tompkins Cortland CC in which they put up 12 runs. They were swept by Lackawanna College yesterday, though, putting up an uncharacteristic 4 runs in the DH. They have gotten a tremendous start to the season by freshman Jeff Towle (10-for-19) with 10 RBI. Chris Mott and Matt Riselvate have both gotten off to nice starts on the mound.
14. NYIT (Record: 2-16-1, Stock EVEN)
They tied Siena today–avoiding their eighth consecutive loss. The bright spots has been Robert Fiato‘s power and Louis Mele continuing to be among the best hitters in the region.
