Another wave of snow has officially hit the surface of Long Island leaving none of our home turf available for battle. However, six teams were on the road on Saturday for a combined 11 games given that five of those teams played doubleheaders. It was a rough day for the hometown groups as they combined for only three wins in a possible 11. Even with the warmer weather down south, these teams still struggled to heat up.

He gave up six runs (four earned), on four hits in only 2.2 innings in the 7-6 walk-off loss. Jeff Belge and Gavin Hollowell were solid in relief surrendering only one run on a walk off in the ninth inning.

Adelphi drops two in Miami Gardens
The pitching and defense failed the Panthers on Saturday in their series of games. In game one, they took a 13-9 loss to Wilmington University after a rough game on the mound. Troy Simpson was only able to record one out in his start while surrendering three runs on two hits. Dan Lotito came in relief and pitched two innings allowing only a run on one hit. Mike Ceparano and Tom Ambrosino combined surrendered five runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
Despite the poor pitching performances, the offense for the Panthers was hot. The hits were well spread throughout the lineup as Lucas Terwilliger and Tyler Warshefskie, who also put up three RBI, were the only ones with multiple hits. The bats were slow to start the game, but Adelphi was able to mount a strong comeback that just fell short.
In game two, they took a bad 14-2 loss to St. Thomas where the pitching and defense could not stay afloat and the offense struggled putting together consistent run production. In total, the Panthers committed four errors in the game. Steven Kuhn got the start for Adelphi allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings. The bullpen struggled mightily for the Panthers after Kuhn got pulled in the third.
Adelphi put together six hits in the loss including a two-hit game from Steven Withers. Robert Vani, Eric Hassell, Brett Malm, and Brandon Morse also recorded hits in the game. Hassell’s RBI single got them on the board in the sixth as Malm’s double gave them their second run in the ninth, but the game had gotten out of hand before the Panthers could attempt to come back.
Adelphi will look to have more success as they will remain in Florida until next weekend.
Molloy’s comeback falls short in the 4-3 loss to SCSU

Maritime loses both in Fort Pierce
The Privateers struggled on defense in the 9-4 game one loss to Misericordia on Saturday. With Maritime recording three errors, the pitching staff was forced to put in some extra work. Matt Buckshaw allowed five runs on six hits in four innings, putting them behind early. Sean McQuail and Brian Hughes combined to surrender four runs, but only one was earned as they only gave up three hits.
Maritime was having trouble pushing runs across as they were only able to plate four runs on ten hits. Brian McLaughlin was responsible for three of their four runs on two doubles. Aaron Schiavoni also had a multi-hit game while also scoring a run.
The Privateers to a big loss in game two to Hilbert going down 13-4. After falling to a 6-0 deficit in the second inning, Maritime couldn’t produce enough offense to make a full comeback. Matt Costleigh, Joe DiLeo, and Chris Stewart produced the team’s only hits. They scored three of their four runs in the third and remained quiet until the ninth after one more run crossed the plate on an error.
With Hilbert plating 13 runs on 19 hits, it’s easy to say that the pitching was not at its best in this one. Brady Dolan struggled this time out allowing seven runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings.
