Hofstra’s Offense Explodes in 14-3 Win over NYIT

Sometimes you just need some good home cookin’.

That was the remedy for the Hofstra Pride, who ended a four-game losing streak with a 15-hit attack in a 14-3 win over NYITDavid Leiderman led the way with four hits in five at bats and Tom Archer drove in four runs and Vinnie Costello added three RBI as well.

“It was really nice to get some quality at bats against a very good pitcher in (Elias) Martinez,” said Head Coach John Russo. “Happy to see Archer, Leiderman and (Vito) Friscia have good days,” he added.

Friscia got the scoring started with an opposite field HR to right field to put the Pride up 1-0. It displayed how strong the sophomore catcher is that he barely squared the ball up and it still went soaring over the fence to the opposite field.

The Bears tied it up in the third inning on an RBI double by Louis Mele, but the third out was recorded with Joe Fusco getting thrown out at third base.

At that point, it looked like it might be a pitcher’s duel but the Pride bats went to work–scoring in the next four innings.

In the bottom of the third, they put up two on an error and a sac fly by Friscia. In the fourth, they put up one on an RBI double by Archer and in the fifth, they broke out with a seven-spot. The big knock was Archer’s bases-clearing double into right center field to score Robert Weissheier, Costello and Mikey Reisner.

The Pride used their entire bullpen in this game, using one pitcher per inning. James Beasley was credited with the win–he pitched the third inning.

For the Bears, the offense didn’t get going after Mele’s RBI hit. They recorded only four hits on the day as they dropped to 1-8. They will host Albany in a DH tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12pm.

The Pride will travel to Alabama for a four-game series with Troy.
