The Long Island Titans held their annual media day tonight at Prospect Sports in Farmingdale.
From their 2017 graduating class, 41 players signed letters of intent to play college ball.
Of that group, 20 will be playing Div-I baseball. That group includes Matthew Aufiero (Sacred Heart), Matthew Boyko (NYIT), Brad Camarda (Hofstra), Chris Cappas (University of Pittsburgh), Nick Cardieri (University of Maine), Harrison Cohen (George Washington), EJ Cumbo (NYIT), Trevor Fagan (Sacred Heart), Ken Gordon (Flagler), Joe Greco (Sacred Heart), Ryan Karp (Stony Brook), Bobby Lewis (Quinnipiac), Brad Malm (University at Albany), Brian Morrell (Notre Dame), Brian Morrissey (Stony Brook), Andrew Nagel (UMASS), Mike Palazzolo (Stony Brook), Chris Stefl (St. John’s), Peter Theodorellis (Farleigh-Dickinson), Cameron Tomaiko (University of Michigan) and Nicholas Trabacchi (UMBC).
Morrissey is arguably the top pitcher on Long Island, and Stony Brook was very aggressive in their pursuit of him.
“For me, it was a very quick one,” said Morrissey in regards to his college recruiting experience.”Everything came at me pretty fast. It all happened the summer after my sophomore year.”
He noted that signing early allowed him to focus on having fun and playing the game after that–which allowed him to have a dominant junior year.
Another one of the top players on the island, St. Anthony’s Cameron Tomaiko, was able to benefit from playing top competition when he excelled at Perfect Game’s highly anticipated tournament in Georgia with the University of Michigan in attendance.
“I had a good game in front of them and everything just escalated from there,” he said. “He called me down for a visit to the Ohio State game and really enjoyed the visit–enjoyed the atmosphere.”
Last year’s graduating class also featured 41 players that went on to play college ball, although this class had eight more Div-I athletes–including EJ Cumbo from Clarke HS.
The oufielder noted that his process was a little bit longer but he enjoyed every step of it.
“It was a long time, but it was so fun,” he said. “Going back and forth with all the coaches and just talking to everyone–getting to know everybody and the process itself.”
The class of ’18 already features some high-profile recruits such as Matt Hogan (Vanderbilt University), Liam Pulsipher (Stony Brook), Logan O’Hoppe (East Carolina), Jason Coules (Fordham), Mark Faello and Anthony D’Onofrio (Hofstra University).
The event was an opportunity for the players to decompress after an intense year of baseball and to enjoy the result of their hard work and success.
