Player Name: Tim Kranz
Position: RHP
School: West Babylon ’15, Stony Brook ’19
Tim is a RHP for West Babylon that is committed to play at Stony Brook in the fall.
He has a very up-tempo delivery. He kicks his leg up with high energy and has a leg kick that is about letter height. He looks down at the ground at balance point before picking up his target with his back leg firm. He swings his leg around before driving to home plate, He gets very good drive from his back side. The arm circle is not long but it enables him to hide the ball very well behind his body. He has a very good stride for his height and throws with a low 3/4 angle. He has a decent finish but he can add a couple ticks if he follows through more.
He works mainly in the 85-86 MPH range with the fastball, 69 with the curve and 80 with the change.
He threw a scoreless inning in the All Star Game. He walked the leadoff hitter on a 3-1 fastball. He started him out with 69 MPH curveball and threw fastballs the rest of the at bat.
The following batter popped up to shortstop on a 85 MPH fastball after falling behind 1-0 with a fastball but got even with a swinging fastball up and out of the zone. The following batter watched an 80 MPH change for ball one, swung through a high fastball, fouled off consecutive high fastballs before flying out to CF on a fastball. He retired the following batter on a 2-2 curveball.
It was a strong showing for the future Division-I pitcher. He didn’t blow anyone away but he gets terrific tailing action on his two seamer. He didn’t show great command of the curveball but it got better as the inning went on.
He did throw away his only pickoff throw, it was too far towards the infield side of the line.
