Player Name: Patrick Reilly
Position: P
School: Plainedge
Patrick is a 6’5″ RHP that is a 2016 graduate of Plainedge HS. In 2015, he had a tremendous season as he won 7 games and walked only 11 batters in 53 IP.
He begins his windup with a short, simple step back. He has a strong balance position–high leg kick, firm back leg, front foot relaxed. He turns slightly towards second to generate more torque. He gets good drive from his back leg. The only refinement in his delivery I would like to see, is the elimination of the upper body movement during his falling action. Although this is probably something that he has used all his career, it slows down his force and costs a few MPH in velocity. His arm angle is directly over the top and he gets good extension on his pitches and is prepared to field his position. The stride is sufficient, but can be a little longer for his height.
During his outing, he retired the side 1-2-3. He threw strikes and he used all quadrants of the strike zone. He worked in the 78-80 MPH range with his fastball and did not throw any offspeed pitches. He struck out the first batter on a fastball looking. He retired the next batter on a fly ball to the right fielder.
Reilly throws strikes with his fastball–that is evident. Being that he was so efficient with his pitches, I was not able to get a gauge of his offspeed pitches, though. He is definitely a college level pitcher just based on his ability to command the strike zone.
