Player Name: Nicholas Palmerini
Position: P
School: Northport ’16
Nicholas is entering his senior year at Northport HS. He is a tall, slender RHP that displayed an advanced feel for pitching. He won three games in 2015.
From the windup, he works from the extreme third base side. He steps to the side in a deliberate pace as he prepares to get to his balance point. He keeps his eyes locked in on the ground prior to picking up his target. He has a high and tight leg kick with his foot pointing down and his back leg firm. He gets good drive from his back side and swings his front leg around during his falling action. His stride is very good for his height and he lands on line with his target. The arm circle is long and his arm angle is directly over-the-top–almost more than straight over the top as he tilts his upper body which makes it even more extreme. His extension is terrific which allows him to maximize the velocity and keep the ball down. Extremely clean mechanics.
Palmerini worked in the 79-82 MPH range with the fastball. He displayed good command and featured arm-side tail on the two-seamer. His curveball was 69 MPH and it has tight 12-6 break. He could use refinement on the control but the movement was good. His change up was 72-73 MPH and he threw it for strikes.
He could certainly end up gaining more velocity simply from gaining weight but it won’t come from mechanical fixes because it is already polished. He will be a real weapon in college if he gains a few more ticks with the fastball.
