Vincent is a sophomore lefty that graduated from Comsewogue high school in 2013. He has a good pitcher’s build at 6’2″ 205 lbs.

He has a very free & easy delivery. He begins with his hands up high just below his eyes. He steps towards the third base side slightly before preparing for his legkick.. He keeps his eyes on the target throughout the duration of the delivery. His leg kick is pretty high–about letter high–and he twists slightly towards center field to generate more torque. He has a bit of a unique hand break, he doesn’t bring it down low like most pitchers, he keeps it linear. He has a pretty short stride and lands slightly towards the first base side which will make him tough on lefties, but also easy to get out of rhythm with strike-throwing. He throws from a high 3/4 arm angle and finishes square to home plate–unlike most lefties who fall off.

He has a better-than-average fastball for a southpaw, sitting in the mid-80s. He throws a tight cutter that will cause many broken bats in the Northeast-10 conference. He did get into trouble with control, as he walked the first two batters on 10 pitches. He induced a weak pop out for the first out. He then closed the door with consecutive strikeouts to avoid any damage. His command improved exponentially as the inning went on. Aprea was able to spot the fastball early in the count and use that slider as a putaway pitch. The final strikeout was in the dirt, but a great one to throw on a 1-2 count.

In the pitcher-friendly conference that New Haven plays in, Aprea should be very difficult to hit out of the bullpen. If he can work ahead, the fastball-slider combo is pretty filthy. Last year he held the opposition to a .218 AVG.
