Player Name: Jack Zagaja
School: New Haven
Position: Third Base
Jack is a 6’2″ sophomore at New Haven and 2013 graduate of St. Dominic’s high school where he made a name for himself by hitting back-to-back three home run games.
Offensively: He hits with his hands held high, his back elbow up with his feet about shoulder length apart. It appears he would be susceptible to low pitches with that stance.
In the March 11 game against Dowling, he did not have a great game. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. In the fifth inning he did show terrific bat speed on an inside fastball in the upper 80s. It appeared to be a hit off the bat but it was directly at the third baseman, who made the play at first.
Defensively: He was terrific in the field. He made a diving play on a rocket line drive hit to his right–displaying elite quickness. He made all the routine plays and displayed a strong and accurate arm.
Base Running: He was not on the bases but he has adequate speed, hustled hard down the line on his ground out to the third baseman.
