Player Name: Dan Jagiello
Position: RHP
School: LIU Post
Dan is a 6’2″ 180 lb RHP for the LIU Post Pioneers, who is pitching in the Hamptons League for the summer of 2015. He will be entering his junior year in 2016. He made eight stats this season, compiled a 3.75 ERA over 57.2 IP with 61 k’s. He held the opponents to a .227 AVG.
From the stretch, he keeps his back leg bent and gets set with his hands belt high. He employs a slide step and it incredibly quick to the plate. From the windup his leg kick is about letter high. He gets very good drive from his back side, has a long arm circle and keeps his head quiet and locked on his target. His arm angle is directly over the top and he has a very rapid arm speed. He could get a little better length from his stride but he does get very good finish and follows through well.
Jagiello works in the low 90s with his four-seam fastball. He throws a tight curveball in the low 80s. He pitched 1.2 innings in the All Star Game and turned heads when he hit 95 on the gun. He allowed one single, but it was erased when the following batter struck out and the base runner was gunned down on an attempted steal.
He pounded the strike zone. It took him only 10 pitches to get two strike outs. The first batter fell behind 0-2 on two well placed fastballs. Jagiello tried to sneak a third one on the outside corner but the batter smacked it up the middle.
The following batter swung through a well-placed fastball for strike one. He fouled off a fastball on the second pitch, before striking out on a high fastball for strike three.
The following batter watched two straight curveballs for strike one and two. He watched a fastball up out of the zone for strike two before striking out on a fastball to end the inning.
He only attempted one pickoff move. It’s unclear whether he was simply teasing the runner but it was incredibly slow. There were no ground balls back to him to test his fielding ability.
Jagiello throws strikes and uses the corners. He will be an even better pitcher in 2016 and will form a formidable duo with Jake DeCarli, and with the incoming Anthony Papa and Anthony Varela, watch out for the Pioneers in 2016.
