Scouting Report: David Leiderman

Player Name: David Leiderman
School: Hofstra
Position: 3b

David is a 6’3″ 195 lb infielder for Hofstra. He is a 2012 graduate of Bellmore-JFK HS where he was the recipient of the Diamond Award for compiling a school-record .609 AVG.

Offense: He is a very well-rounded hitter. He hits with a relaxed stance with minimum movement. He has his weight evenly distributed. his back leg down and his bat upright. He has a small stride as he loads and gets into the hitting position. He has very quick hands and gets good extension.

He had a bit of a difficult weekend down in Texas A&M. He struck out five times in 12 at bats, with most of those coming on pitches out of the strike zone. Both of his hits came in the first game on fastballs on the inner half. He narrowly missed another hit–he rocked a fastball off the pitcher, but he recovered to get the out. That is clearly the pitch he handles best. After that, they attacked him with a steady diet of breaking balls and fastballs up out of the zone.

Three of the strikeouts were on high fastballs and the other one low curveballs. He did have some very good, long turns at bat. He also drew a walk in a long plate appearance.

Defensively: Very solid. He committed no errors but more importantly, he made everything look easy. Quick reactions, smooth hands, fluid movements, no wasted motion and a strong, accurate throw to first base. Very impressive at the hot corner.

Base Running: Did not attempt a steal. He did score a run on a base hit to left field from second base. He was dead to rights, but his slide dislodged the ball from the catcher and he was fortunate to score the run. Above average speed, he stole six bases last season.
