Scouting Report: Andrew Sesto

Player Name: Andrew Sesto
School: Adelphi University
Position: RHP

Andrew is a big-bodied pitcher–at 6’2″ 260 lbs, he is an imposing figure on the hill. He brings his hands down as a timing mechanism as he steps back during his delivery. He brings them all the way as he is entering the balance position. He keeps his eyes locked on the target the entire delivery. The legkick is slightly unique as he brings it up but kicks the foot out towards third base a little before coming up. The stride is normal and the landing is straight to homeplate. He finishes with good extension and balance, slightly falling off to the first base side.

In his one inning of work against New Haven, he threw up a goose egg. Sesto worked mainly in the low 80s with his fastball. He struck out the first batter on a high fastball, showing good command to hit the target. The next batter smacked a line drive single to CF on another high fastball. He allowed another single to the next batter on a groundball that deflected off his leg. He escaped trouble when he struck out the next batter and induced a 6-4 forceout. On the strikeout, he threw a loopy curveball on 0-1 which the batter fouled off. He followed that up with a tight slider, but one that a more polished hitter would’ve laid off.

He showed a decent pickoff move as well, and varied his looks to home plate to keep the runners honest.

Sesto mainly threw his fastball early in the count and then used his breaking ball and changeup to get outs. He will be a relief pitcher this season, but can be valuable if he displays the same command that he did in this game.
