In 2015, John Galanoudis was the second leading hitter on Molloy. He smacked the baseball to the tune of a .318 AVG/.386/.403 triple slash line, drove in 29 runs, scored 30 runs and belted two HR.
He also belted out a bunch of hits on his country album titled “Fire Still Burning“.
Since that time, he has been busy furthering his career as a coach at St. Thomas Aquinas, but he was able to release a new single titled “Summer Ball”.
I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…
Has music taken a back seat to your coaching or have you still found a balance between the two?
Music definitely took a backseat once I began coaching. I felt as if I found that balance as a player, but I also believe that it took me a little while to find that balance and adjust to coaching life and working in the athletic department at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Part of the reason I decided to record and release “Summer Ball” was because it hit a point where my friends and family kept asking about new music and mentioned how I don’t sit around playing guitar as much as I used to. It was then where I told myself that I can’t put down something that was such a big part of me for as long as I can remember. It feels good to be finding that balance again.
What was your inspiration for this song and what are your fondest memories of summer ball?
I actually wrote “Summer Ball” in August of 2014 when I came back from playing for the Syracuse Salt Cats in the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL). A lot of inspiration was taken from that summer I spent up there, the incredible people I met, and the experience of going away to play summer baseball. As a songwriter, the goal was to capture that entire experience and write a song to connect with everybody who has had that same or similar experience. Even though the song was written in 2014, I still think all of the previous summers had a lot of influence on me and helped shape the message I wanted to get across in the song. My final experience as a player in independent professional baseball, helped put the finishing touches on the song and it was kept under wraps ever since.
What is the next project you’re working on ?
I can’t say for sure what the next project will be. I did have plans to release another album but like I mentioned, the issue was free time and that plan was put on hold for a little while. I have a lot of songs that I haven’t released still in the arsenal, so I believe it’s just a matter of time until I put out another EP or a full-length album
