This is a full recap of today’s college baseball action.

Division I:

Stony Brook swept a double header against conference foe UMBC by the scores of 4-1 and 3-2.

Chad Lee pitched eight great innings for the Seawolves, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out three. A leadoff triple by Handley in the first evened the score at one. Giles singled home Real in the fourth to put the Seawolves ahead 2-1. They would add two unearned runs in the sixth, extending their lead to 4-1. Lee pitched his way out a jam in the eighth, leaving two UMBC runners in scoring position. Rodliff would enter in the ninth and preserve the victory for Stony Brook.

Game two featured Stony Brook freshman pitcher Bret Clarke and UMBC pitcher Conrad Wozniak. Clarke threw five innings of one run ball, striking out ten batters. Wozniak pitched six and a third, allowing three runs, two of them earned. The Seawolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the first. UMBC would tie the game in the fifth, and take the lead in the seventh on an RBI single. The Seawolves rallied in the seventh inning. An RBI single by Honeyman tied the game at two, and a single down the line by Real scored Baker giving his team the 3-2 win, walk-off style. Stony Brook improved to 19-19 on the season (9-3 in the America East).

NYIT was swept in their double header against Binghamton, 23-1 in game one and 3-2 in game two. Elias Martinez got the start in game one for NYIT and did not last long. He pitched just one and a third, allowing six runs on five hits. Relieving Martinez, pitcher Brandon Alberto allowed eight runs without recording an out. Four other Bears relievers gave up ten runs over the course of the rest of the game. Their lone run came on an RBI fielder’s choice hit by Louis Mele.

Binghamton struck first in game two, going up 1-0 in the second. They added two more runs in the third to increase their lead to 3-0. An RBI single by Martelli and an RBI double by Caradonna produced NYIT’s only runs of the game. NYIT threatened to tie the game in the ninth, but their rally was halted by a GIDP off the bat of Caradonna.

Hofstra lost today by the score of 10-5 against conference opponent UNC Wilmington. It was a rough day for Hofstra pitcher John Rooney, giving up seven runs on 12 hits over three innings of work. UNC Wilmington put up four runs in the first, including two homeruns. An infield single by Karl cut the lead to 4-1 in the second. The Seahawks hit three more homers and extended their lead to 9-1 after five. Alex Royalty was fantastic for UNCW, allowing two runs and striking out six over seven innings.

Division-II:

Molloy took both games of a double header from Dowling today, 10-3 and 9-8. The Golden Lions took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from Rizzitello. Six hits and two Dowling errors led to a seven run second inning for Molloy. Run scoring hits by Hahn, Gonchar and Alberhina fueled the rally. An RBI single and sacrifice fly by Robert Morse accounted for the other two Dowling runs in the game. Singles by Navetta and Podell and a balk scored the other three runs for Molloy.

Molloy started game two with a bang on a bases clearing double by Kevin Podell. Navetta followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0. Dowling’s Dennis Buckstein was chased from the game after an RBI ground rule double by Gonchar increased the lead to five. Dowling rallied in the fifth to tie the game at five, including a two RBI double by Chris Appell. After jumping out to a 7-5 lead, Dowling gave it right back. Molloy would take an 8-7 lead on a two run single by Guzman. A pair of wild pitches by Dowling’s Mike Jeanetti made it 9-7. The Golden Lions scored one run in the seventh, but would come up short and lose the game by one.

LIU Post split their doubleheader against Pace University; both games ending in a score of 2-1. DeCarli pitched well only giving up one run in four innings. An RBI double by Doria and RBI single by Spitaleri produced two runs for Post in game one. Dan Jagiello pitched the second half of the game for LIU post, holding Pace scoreless on one hit.

Pace won the second game with great pitching. Garran threw eight innings of one run ball, allowing just four hits. LIU Post scored their lone run on an RBI double to deep center by Groeneveld. LIU Post is now 9-11 in conference on the season.

Adelphi won game one of their doubleheader 16-3 against the College of Saint Rose. It was an offensive onslaught by Adelphi, as they scored two runs in the first, three runs in the third, and five runs in the fifth. First basemen Robert Vani had a huge game going 4 for 5 with six RBIs.

Division-III:

Farmingdale dropped both games today against Maritime, 5-2 and 4-2. Maritime scored first in game one on an RBI triple by Woodburn. An RBI single by Reilly evened the score at one in the fourth. Maritime broke the game open in the seventh, scoring four runs on five hits and taking a 5-1 lead. A.J. Ammirati got the win for Maritime, throwing seven innings of one run ball.

Maritime was on the board first in game two as well. They scored one run in each of the first three innings off Farmingdale pitcher Kevin Martinez. RBI singles by Gaudio and Palumbo got Farmindale within two, but that was as close as they could get. Maritime added a fourth run in the sixth, and their bullpen preserved the 4-2 victory.

Old Westbury swept their doubleheader from Mt. Saint Vincent on senior day, by scores of 18-0 and 15-4. Old Westbury blew game one open early, scoring ten runs in the second inning. Lao, Walsh and Boscia all recorded multiple RBI’s as they cruised to an easy victory. Jeremy Charles collected a career high eleven strikeouts in a two hit shutout of the Dolphins.

Game two provided another offense explosion for Old Westbury. After going down 2-0 early, they answered with five quick runs off Dolphins starting pitcher Michael Kochen. They would take control of the game adding four more runs in the second. Farmingdale’s Walsh and Russo went a combined 5-10 with four stolen bases and three runs scored. Dorcean, Caputo, and Mordecai combined for three innings of scoreless relief for Farmingdale.

St. Joseph’s sweeps doubleheader from Purchase in back to back shutouts. They won game one 10-0 and game two 5-0. Ryan Aloise dominated for the Golden Eagles, pitching a complete game shutout. He allowed only four hits while striking out eight batters. They scored seven runs over the course of innings four and five, coasting to an easy victory.

Josh Outsen shined in game two, tossing a complete game shutout. He struck out five and allowed just five hits. Nick Girardi had a big game for the Golden Eagles, going 3-4 including a two run blast in the third to break the 0-0 tie.
